I should wish to remind Andrew Nutt about his party’s neutral stance during the Second World War and its hope for independence. Saunders Lewis, the founder and leader of Plaid Cymru, hoped that a substantial number of Welshmen would refuse conscription on the grounds that they were Welsh. Some did. While my father and countless other Welsh men and women fought and died to keep us safe from a Nazi invasion, those who obeyed their leader slept safe and sound in their nationalist beds at night. Back to the present day, the leader of Plaid Cymru, Leanne Woods, was in Scotland supporting the Yes vote on Independence. She had the audacity to suggest that if Wales wanted a referendum on independence, her nationalist party should be voted into power in Cardiff Bay.
