THE Tory party has always been the domain of the rich and privileged and it has not changed its spots now in spite of Cameron’s modern gloss.

The Tories have lined the pockets of the super rich with tax cuts — and to pay for this, the disabled, poor and sick have suffered draconian cuts.

Now, with the election just months away, we have more promises from Cameron.

For the middle- and upper-class voters, and a small minority of working-class voters, he promises even more tax cuts.

For the working poor and millions of unemployed struggling to find their first job, he promises even more cuts to their benefits. For the young, he plans restrictions on Jobseeker’s Allowance. The bedroom tax attacks the disabled and elderly.

In 1945, out of the ruins of war, Labour politicians created full employment and a welfare state that was the envy of the world.

Now, we are lagging behind even some of the poorest countries in Europe in how we look after the most vulnerable in society.
