FOR the health, safety and comfort of passengers and drivers, Newport Bus sensibly prohibits smoking, eating, drinking, excessive noise and talking to the driver when the bus is in motion.

We are advised by the NHS, chemists and pharmacists to guard against the flu virus and germs this winter.

With minimum ventilation and steamed-up, closed windows on the buses, surely Newport City Council and the Welsh Assembly could finance the fixing of antiseptic hand sanitizers in all buses, reducing the spread of flu, germs and other bugs.

Waiting at a Newport Bus shelter recently, I noticed a considerate fellow passenger rubbing his hands together with a gel and he explained that he had earlier used a poorly maintained Newport Council public gents’ toilet and that he needed to make sure his hands were germ-free on the buses and in shops, etc.

Very sensible.

I hope the expert authorities are taking note.
