AFTER many months indoors, I had a look round town today as far as the Transporter Bridge.

Although confused by numerous new roads and layouts, Newport is not as bad as people say.

The Kingsway area in particular is cleaner.

The university, Riverfront and new developments make a pleasant change from dilapidated buildings, scrap businesses and drab scenery.

The Blaina Wharf pub makes a difference too and even the SDR bridge looks pretty good.

People of the city are pleasant and helpful. Many from different cultures walk about happily.

Known as a friendly city it certainly looks cosmopolitan.

Pill looked busy despite numerous boarded shops.

At The Transporter Bridge Tourist Office, I chatted with a volunteer about when the docks was thriving.

Reading about the many projects for improvement and events like the food festival and car rally, makes me believe Newport is on the up.

Newport is blessed with many positive attributes with oodles to offer.

I just wish more could be done to portray our huge maritime and industrial roots.

With the continued council initiatives coming into force, I am sure the fighting spirit of the populace will lift the city back into the top league.
