LINDSAY Whittle, Assembly Member for South Wales East, seems to be unaware of the concerns already voiced by residents living near the Southern Distributor Road at the prospect of this being selected for development as Newport’s new M4.

Air pollution generated in the central parts of the city caused by motor traffic is having an impact on people’s health and has been recorded.

The situation can only be relieved by taking away as much traffic as possible from these sensitive areas.

The new black route along the south edge of the city is preferred by the Welsh government and provides the perfect answer.

Removal of the present weak link in the road infrastructure of South Wales will bring considerable economic advantages to the whole region and improve its future prosperity by making it more attractive to business leaders and developers.

It is time to stop talking and instead get on with the job. There has been too much delay already.
