ACCORDING to The Politics File (Argus, October 29), Leighton Andrews AM bemoans the dearth of young people engaging in local politics. He even suggests that civics be taught in schools. Would that be Assembly speak for Labour propaganda?
Most teachers and their trade unions are left wing, so they are hardly likely to encourage a Tory-inspired agenda. There are enough political ramblings brought into the classroom already via speeches from save the planet fanatics and the favoured charities of teaching staff; more immersing of young brains in subjects that take them away from lessons vital to their futures is definitely not a good idea.
In the Scottish referendum 16 year olds were allowed to vote which resulted in older generations turning out in force, fearful for their pensions and knowing full well that most teenagers don’t read that part of a manifesto that wobbles on about pension plans. Was that the real reason that caused Scotland to remain part of the union? Who knows?
