I AM writing to let people know about a free support event run by Diabetes UK to help people who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The Living with Diabetes Day will take place in Newport’s Holiday Inn on Monday, November 24.

About 8,000 people are estimated to have type 2 diabetes in Newport, a figure that is set to increase. This is why I am supporting the Living with Diabetes Day in Newport because I understand if people know how to manage their conditionwell, they can go on to live long and healthy lives.

Throughout the day, people will be given information they need to help them start taking control of their condition so they can enjoy a healthy life. Healthcare professionals will provide information on local healthcare and the services available to people with type 2 diabetes in the area.

Experts will give workshops on the practical elements of living with type 2 diabetes such as diet, exercise, medication, travel and driving.

I am urging people with type 2 diabetes to attend this free support event. TPlaces are limited so those interested in attending the event should register online at www.diabetes.org.uk/lwdd or email lwdd@diabetes.org.uk or call 0345 123 2399.
