FOR A finance minister, Jane Hutt AM (Argus, October 31) seems to have an old approach to money matters.

She says that it’s wonderful news for Wales to receive another £2 billion from the EU because parts of the principality are classed among some of the poorest areas of Europe.

I think shame would be a more appropriate attitude.

According to media reports, more than £3 billion of EU largesse has already been shared among valley communities since the year 2000. So, where has it all gone? Wouldn’t her time be better spent finding out why it’s needed, where it’s been squandered and holding to account those financial wizards on local councils who have been signing the cheques?
