I HAVE stated before in the Argus that if we are to suffer cuts in services, let’s start at the top.

At the moment, there are 60 councillors sitting on Newport Council who receive over £13,000 a year each, not including expenses and extra for sitting on committees.

Therefore, it would be prudent to cut this 60 to 40 and save £500.000 a year and not cut budgets for vital services ie. education and precepts elsewhere.

With the population of Newport as it is, they could easily cope, but I fear this will fall on deaf ears.
