OUT OF touch Farage could try to divert £1bn away from investment in Wales’ transport infrastructure. I refer to the construction of an M4 corridor relief road around Newport - normally understood to result from a genuine need to expand the capacity of our ageing motorway.

The existing road does not meet motorway standards (lacks hard shoulders, junctions too close together, narrow two-lane sections through Brynglas Tunnels) and has problems with speed limit changes and sliproad diversions at peak times.

Capacity forecasts show that problems will increase as the region’s economy grows, with car ownership and resident commuters in the area expected to rise. Unsurprisingly, the UKIP leader blames immigrants. His recent failure to arrive on time at a Port Talbot party event further confirmed this for him.

Forget the sub-standard infrastructure in Wales and the difficulties it throws at people in South Wales who seek a better economic future and social mobility. Instead, it is a flood of foreigners who dominate our roads.

Are we to believe that these same people, who allegedly get by on sub-minimum wage salaries, are truly the biggest consumers of road vehicles, petrol, car tax, insurance and related costs?

Something doesn’t quite add up, Nigel.
