FORMER Newport Conservative councillor, William Routley, has been accused of jumping on a political bandwagon by joining UKIP.

History records that the late Sir Winston Churchill and, at a later date, other MPs crossed the floor of the house when they were already elected members for other parties. At least Mr Routley has the courage to go to the electorate to achieve his ambitions.

Anyway, far better to be on a bandwagon that’s going places than an old jalopy that’s lost its sense of direction. So, on that note, I wish him the best of luck.
