ONCE again, Terry Banfield comments on the Bible, and as usual, his comments are non-contextual and deeply flawed. In mentioning Bible killings, he fails to give the reasons why these killings were ordered or their relevance to a particular period in history. He has no understanding of scripture and uses it to bolster his atheism and his own questionable beliefs on the origin of the universe, as I have pointed out, by quoting many scientists over the years.

Several times Mr Banfield has said that the Bible is “a book of fairy tales by slave-owning goatherds”. That remark is not just deeply offensive to those who revere the Bible, it lacks intelligence and demonstrates his contempt for those in many areas of the academic world who believe the Bible and can give good reasons why. It is also unutterably stupid and we can also wonder whether such a remark is possibly anti-Semitic.

Mr Banfield also forgets to mention that the God of the Bible offers covenant love, fatherhood and friendship. He states that we must feel free to criticise. Criticise away, but as far as the Bible is concerned, get your facts right first.
