IF YOU ever need a better example of how to cause traffic chaos, past, present and, more than likely, future, then look no further than the nightmare that is the queue outside the Royal Gwent Hospital at peak times.

I have recently been visiting a family member in the RGH, and judging by the ridiculous queues that build up outside, I wouldn’t attempt to try and get a spot in the small car park. Also, a by-product of this is that the traffic queuing is stopping the movement of cars trying to carry on up to the city centre and, as an added bonus, causes another traffic jam back at the lights at the junction at the bottom of Belle Vue Lane.

There are a few high-viz jacket wallahs trying to marshal things, but why don’t they station someone on Cardiff Road and send vehicles queuing for the hospital on their way when the car park is full and there is already a queue of cars on the premises waiting to find a place, thus allowing the traffic to flow naturally?

Better yet, why not get rid of that ridiculous traffic island that takes up two lanes?
