OH, how I endorse Mr Donovan’s comments (Argus, January 19) on the traffic problems at Glan Usk School. I have actually seen three school buses parked on each end of Stockton Road and Bank Street. It was absolute chaos. If there had been a fire or an ambulance wanted at that time, it would have been a complete disaster.

At school run times, cars, at extremely fast speed, jump and overtake the long awaiting queue in Bank Street to turn left into Stockton Road (further along this road, some children can be dropped off to use the railway underpass to walk to school). This can be done as there is a “no entry unless exit is clear” traffic box just before the one way hump back bridge and traffic lights. There isn’t any thought for people or cars from Stockton Road trying to cross Bank Street to get to the other side of Stockton Road.

Furthermore, what about the footpath over the railway alongside the road humped bridge. It’s a terrible mess and in a very bad state of repair. To ask people to walk over this is a disgrace. The hand rails cannot be used properly because of overhanging weeds, bushes, nettles and wet, soggy leaves piled high to the sides which doesn’t give much room to walk, especially if you are holding a small child.

Let’s have a road to the school from where it was originally supposed to be, somewhere at the Turner Street area and let Bank Street and the bridge get back to its normal traffic.
