I AM SURE many readers have had the problem with Newport Council about instances of non-collections of recycling items. This happened to me last Wednesday when the bright green cardboard bag was missed. It could have been genuine given the number of recycling boxes in the road, but getting some sense on a simple issue has been difficult.

I phoned the council call centre the same morning and reported it. By Monday the bag was still outside unmoved, so I phoned again. Politely. the operator looked into it and phoning this week I was told that Waste Disposal said it wasn’t put out. Obvious answer, I suppose, but the bag was out the day before and I actually watched the bin men pass by and assumed they had taken mine. I have not yet had a call from Waste Disposal to explain, so again I phoned the call centre today.

They tell me that the department have five days to reply. So, because of the split fortnightly collections for wheelie bins and green bags, this poor little bag will be on the front wall for another week. That’s Newport Council, I suppose.
