IT’S GOOD news and good luck for the citizens of Abertillery having confirmation of a new, modern post office (Friday, March 6) replacing the current office in Church Street.

Yet Newport City’s Caerleon Road post office is to be closed and replaced by another office squeezed into the local Spar. As a regular local shopper, this idea looks like it could be a big problem, with overcrowding, traffic and parking problems and a struggle for senior citizens.

When will local Newport citizens be consulted, especially as Mr Adrian, Wales regional manager, has said “we (the Post Office) understand how important having access to high quality Post Office services is to residents.” This must apply to Newport also, surely?

A better idea could be to move the post office into the local Victoria Public House, which has just been refurbished. Then Post Office customers could have a pint or a sherry when waiting for the excellent service.
