I MUST compliment Newport Council on the new traffic layout on the Pill side of the George Street bridge; the work done now allows traffic turning right off the bridge to run more smoothly, and safely.

One thing, though, during the work, the pause on temporary traffic lights changing from red to green was too close, especially on the change from the Asda side of Lower Dock Street to traffic coming from George Street and the bridge, meaning that traffic on green had to stop to allow vehicles coming through, very late.

Nothing has changed with the new set-up.

I use this junction every day, and four times on one day, recently, at least two cars coming up from the Asda side came through their red lights, when the lights had been green for at least five seconds from those by Halfords. On one occasion, four vehicles came through on red.

I know that red light jumping is the norm in the city these days, but, the good work done in sorting out that dangerous right turn on the bridge is being spoiled by more danger in vehicles jumping the lights.
