AFTER reading many stories of accidents occurring on the M4 at or near the Brynglas tunnels, some fatal, all serious, I could not understand why this was happening until now.

As a recent regular user of this part of the M4, particularly late evening, I have come to the conclusion that a small percentage of drivers approaching this well-known accident spot not only totally ignore the well-illuminated 50mph speed limit, but actually accelerate into the tunnels.

Why are they doing this? Can’t they read? Are they in such a rush that instead of leaving their departure point a few minutes earlier, they have to put themselves and other road users at risk by acting like complete novices (I will refrain from using stronger wording to avoid upsetting people)?

I use this stretch of road at least three times a week travelling back from the South West and witness this diabolical excuse of driving every time. Gwent traffic police, where are you? You could be very busy here, making this a much safer road in the process.
