I WOULD like to clear up a few inaccuracies in the recent letter from Freda York (Doesn’t add up, April 7).

At the February 25 meeting she refers to, officers informed the group that the estimated cost to move Blaenavon Library into the World Heritage Centre would be around £120,000.

The funding bid to CyMAL for £103,035.65 was based on this estimated cost. CyMAL is able to provide grant funding of up to 90 per cent towards the cost of relocation and library fit-out. The final cost will be confirmed following the completion of the tender process. Once this final cost is known, CyMAL will be advised, and any grant offer will be calculated accordingly. The council would cover the remaining costs from its own budget.

Moving Blaenavon Library into the World Heritage Centre and the Cordell Museum into the Workman’s Hall will make an annual saving to the council of £100,000.

Not only does the move allow us to protect the library service and Cordell Museum in Blaenavon, it allows us to offer a better service and experience to residents and visitors. It is worth noting that the Cordell Museum trustees, trustees of the Workman’s Hall and Blaenavon Town Council agree.
