THE Labour Party are considering their future. They have much to consider. They are not bad people; they are just wrong. There is nothing more natural than for people to want to better themselves and their families. Witness the nearly 5 million self-employed. There is nothing wrong with wanting your children to have a better start in life than you did. Again, it is natural. The Labour approach in the election was an appeal to envy. They sought to divide the nation, not realising that we are all more or less the same and want the same things. I am not envious of anyone. There will always be people with more money than me, people who are cleverer, who can run faster, jump higher and swim further. That is in the nature of things. Envy consumes the person who is envious, not the one who is envied. There is some doubt whether the Labour Party will ever form a government again, at least in its present form.
No doubt some new party, or an amalgamation of several, will arise and offer a cogent alternative to the Conservatives. They will need some fresh thinking not the same old, tired out slogans.
