HOW intriguing to read the letter from Steve Delahaye (with whom I believe I may have gone to school) regarding the abundance of shopping trolleys currently gracing the lugubrious mud of Newport’s dear old Usk. This kind of thing is certainly an eyesore but I feel by calling for their removal he has missed a trick in terms of tourism.
Give these relics forty years or so to sink and rust, let some bright spark ‘discover’ them and, hey presto - Roman chariots.
Wait, wait - don’t knock the idea; I seem to remember something similar in a maritime happening before. What with the proximity of Caerleon’s Roman heritage, this might well be a more viable proposition. Bring on the coach tours.
