SO, NEWPORT City Labour Council has been incapable of finding a new “Streetscene” manager (Argus, July 11) to be responsible for Newport’s street cleaning, bin collections, graffiti, potholes, fly-tipping, road signs and markings, street lights, bus shelters, etc. A few years ago, Newport City Council sent a task force to Swansea City Council for advice to improve our Indoor Market. The Newport group should have returned to Swansea City Council and negotiated a part-time transfer loan of a Swansea City Streetscene Manager, more efficient and cheaper than a full time agency consultant! Swansea City is really on the ball, having recently handed fines to motorists parking illegally at bus stops, drivers who think it’s OK to park on zebra crossings, chevrons outside schools and, what they call, selfish parking. Perhaps Terry Butcher, Newport County AFC manager could have been invited to accompany the Newport Council team and negotiated a few loan players from Swansea City AFC.
