THE Market Arcade in Newport’s city centre, neglected by the council, is a disgusting disgrace.
Shoppers, visitors, children, etc, have to walk through repeated deposits of pigeons’ mess scattered alongside and outside the excellent small businesses who are struggling to make a living. Newport City Labour Council’s answer (spokesperson) to my (repeated) phone-calls is that the properties are privately owned and cleaning the popular footfall access is not the council’s responsibility!
I wonder if this would be the response in Cardiff!
Instead of throwing the towel in, why hasn’t Newport’s Labour brain shown some efficiency and interest in the Health and Safety aspect of this nightmare?
While Newport City Council tries to persuade Newport citizens to “shop local”, the Leader, Cllr Bob Bright, needs to brighten up his ideas and not insult the people of Newport with such a half-hearted attitude.
Perhaps Health and Safety in Newport City could be handed over to another trust?
