THE suggestion by Gwent/Newport police that the young ladies plying their trade on the streets of Pill should be moved to areas that are less open to public gaze and away from residents (who are rightly aggrieved at the goings on) is a great idea.
Here is another great idea, what about moving them all up to the former police headquarters at the civic centre, where there must be loads of empty rooms that are available, plus loads of parking for customers.
Put somebody like the police commissioner, or one of our city council chiefs to manage everything and to make sure everything runs smoothly.
They could even charge a fee for the use of the premises and parking fees. Wait a minute I am getting carried away here that would make it a brothel, and that, I think is illegal.
So is soliciting, so I think it would be a better idea if the police did what council tax payers expect.
Put a presence in and around the area to deter the practice, maybe put up CCTV cameras to also deter kerb crawling. The much suffering good people of Pill deserve nothing less from the police and Newport council.
