I DON’T often put pen to paper but something that happened today put me in the right frame of mind.
As I looked out of my window this morning, I was aware of the bins being emptied outside my back gate.
To my amazement, I noticed one of the bin men throw a takeaway drinks cup on to the ground while sorting through a black recycling box.
I would have thought that this type of cup is made of waxed cardboard (the same stuff as Tetra) and therefore should have gone in the back of the lorry.
No!
It was blatantly thrown on the floor.
Surely these workers are trained to put products that are not recycled into an empty black bin or even left in the black box for the owner to deal with, NOT thrown it on to the ground.
I think the council should be made aware that this is happening.
Perhaps workers should take a turn at cleaning our streets (the hard way, with a brush and barrow), or even be fined.
If it was myself who had committed the offence, an officer of the law would be quick enough in giving me a fine for littering.
The council should look closer to home when it comes to litter on our streets.
You only have to follow a bin lorry to New Inn to see where a lot of this litter is coming from.
