NEWPORT Bus intends to cease services to Rogerstone and Brynglas/ Alteryn. Already the frequency of the No 1 bus to Rogerstone has, in effect, been halved some months ago. The furthest Newport Bus travels in that direction is to the Gaer and it makes no effort to undertake to provide a service to Newport City boundary (ie the Welsh Oak), passengers/residents have to rely on Stagecoach for that. If Newport Bus wish to scrap a few routes how about hourly No 37 to Rhiwderin which apart from going up Cwm Cwddy Drive (is that any steeper to walk up than Brynglas Road or Barrack Hill I wonder?), follows the same route as the No 50 Stagecoach to Caerphilly which runs through Rhiwderin every 30 minutes. Or the No 34 to Celtic Springs which runs every two hours. Like a ghost train to and from and its terminus being yards from a bus stop on Cardiff Road where the No 30 (Cardiff to Newport) comes along every 20 minutes. However, seemingly unable to afford a bus service for its passengers within Newport City boundaries, Newport transport is now operating theNo 60 route to Monmouth hourly and has been running local routes around the Monmouth area for a long time. So how much fuel is Newport transport using to go back, forth and around Monmouth, when there doesn’t seem to be enough in the tank to take a bus a mile or so to Malpas Road or High Cross?
