SURELY it would be fairer for Lightsource to postpone their promotional public meeting at Caerleon on Wednesday evening pending results from their, “commissioned report to investigate the potential for archaeological remains within the site, and assess the potential for adverse impact on any identified archaeology and other known heritage assets in the area”.
This company has submitted two major planning applications to build solar farms on archaeologically-sensitive land at Caerleon. (I discovered an important neolithic site there in 2009/10).
The proposed ‘farms’ are in the beautiful green wedge area between Malthouse Lane and Lodge Hill: See Weekly Planning Lists Ref 15/0902 and 15/0903.
Lagoon pools are being constructed in the Bristol Channel near Swansea and planned for the River Severn near Newport.
The Swansea one will provide enough electricity to supply the needs of a town as large as Newport.
Why spoil important archaeology and green-wedge land when lagoon pools will do the job without those negatives?
