CLLR Bob Bright might “praise the legacy” of the Friar’s Walk development but many of us cannot forget or forgive Newport Councils’s scandalous destruction of the Chartist Mural that allegedly “stood in the way” of its construction.
The sight of a Labour-led council cosying-up to developers by wantonly destroying a monument to working-class history was deeply shameful.
I intend to boycott the new shops until the mural is adequately replaced and would encourage anyone who feels equally strongly to do the same.
