IT WAS very sad to see in the news this week that yet again jobs are being lost at Tata Steel.
No doubt Plaid Cymru and rest of the Welsh Assembly members will be pushing for a vote to ensure that any redundancy letters are printed in Welsh which I am sure will soften the blow and make the unfortunate redundant feel better and proud.
While the Welsh Assembly has no responsibility for steel jobs, Newport council has been made to struggle with the loss of funding over the past few years resulting in the closure of many various local amenities such as care homes, libraries and leisure centres etc.
On top of this there has also been recent rumours that there are job losses within the council cleaning department on the horizon.
We are all very aware of the Welsh Language Act and what it represents, however I would like to suggest its now time we had a Common Sense Act!
If the Welsh Language budget was drastically cut to bring it line with the actual use of the language, the many millions of pounds saved could be shared by all Welsh councils and put to much better use in helping them all to balance their respective budgets.
