READING your report tonight (January 26) that Councillor David Attwell will be the next mayor of the city. Whilst I wish this gentlemen the very best for his term in this honourable position, I am somewhat surprised at his reaction. He stated: “I was very surprised at the nomination.” Why?
Is he saying he didn’t know he was being nominated?
If this is the case, he must be the only one at the Civic Centre who didn’t!
The mayor is chosen from a list which indicates how long each councillor has served.
The one with highest number of years after the current mayor is automatically the next one. So in effect councillors know years in advance who will be next – unless, of course, they lose an election!
Mr Attwell’s turn now so does anyone want to guess who will be the next one, or wait ‘til next year for the surprise revelation!
