AN AMAZING phenomenon takes place in Blaenavon as soon as there is heavy rain – a new river is formed.
Due to a reversal in the normal flow of water instead of it going down drains it comes up like geysers, it swirls down Llanover Road, over the kerbb and all the way down Ton Mawr Road and Street.
Torfaen CBC has been made aware of this on numerous occasions and has now told residents NOT to continue to report it.
I believe they feel they are helping to keep people fit as they have to walk long distances to cross the road where the river is not so deep. Parents have to lift older children into cars so they don’t arrive in school with wet feet. But beware all those parents who send their children on foot. They could receive a phone call asking them to visit the school with dry footwear!
If you are brave enough to wade across, be ready to jump if a car travels towards you as they provide a free shower. The residents of Llanover Road have been provided with sand bags. But all cars travelling along spray the doors and water is going through the doors to soak the carpets.
Please remember to write a note to Torfaen CBC thanking them for providing a free carpet cleaning service. Some residents are considering changing their cars for boats – is there a grant for this? A competition follows for naming the new river.
