IT MUST be of great concern to parents, teachers and school governors of St Julian’s and Glan Usk Primary Schools ( formerly Durham Road Primary) which both achieved green in the Welsh Government’s official colour-coded bandings to learn that St Julian’s and Caerleon Comprehensive Schools have been colour-coded red, meaning they will need support from the council and the Welsh Government.
Most pupils who attend St Julian’s and Glan Usk Primary schools go on to attend these comprehensive schools. This must be very disheartening for primary school teachers who have worked so hard to achieve the green banding. In former years, both these comprehensive schools had an excellent reputation. Mr Marshall, ex-head of St Julian’s school, was very highly respected by parents and pupils.
I worked at St Julian’s Primary School (then infant school) for 25 years and still have contact with parents and ex-pupils and know that many have gone on to achieve great things. In support of current St Julian’s pupils, when I am on the St Julian’s buses that they use to travel home they always look smart and are well mannered! I hope that the good reputation of these schools can be restored soon!
