I WANT to extend huge thanks to all the patients and Welsh Assembly Members who attended the Cancer Patient Voices meeting on Tuesday, February 2, next door to the Welsh Assembly.
In particular I’d like to acknowledge Cardiff resident Annie Mulholland for organising such a landmark event, and Irfon Williams from Bangor for speaking so powerfully about the vital need to improve access to treatments and survival in Wales.
More than 40 people who have had a cancer diagnosis gave up their time and precious energy to come and tell their stories on behalf of the tens of thousands of people living with cancer in Wales.
The event was the first of its kind and, with standing room only, will I am sure be the first of many more.
It’s not acceptable that, in Wales, people are unable to access vital treatment because of where they live, in a postcode lottery of care.
We heard stories from patients across Wales, with different types of cancer, all of whom had experienced these inconsistencies.
As a charity, Target Ovarian Cancer are committed to listening to women affected so we can work out the best ways to support them as they are diagnosed and receive treatment.
Now, we’re calling on politicians in the Welsh Government to listen to the voices of cancer patients in Wales  and take an urgent stand to improve early diagnosis, access to treatment and care.
