JONATHAN Clark’s letter re late night trains demonstrates a somewhat lack of logic on capacity problems for travellers wishing to board trains at stations north or east of Cardiff Central station after the Six Nations Wales v France game (8pm kick-off).
I agree we need to avoid the late-night World Cup trains fiasco travelling home from London.
I assume his ‘short trains’ after the late Friday game will be packed to the gunnels with Welsh supporters going home from Cardiff (French supporters mostly bedding down for the night around Cardiff).
Surely most of these Welsh supporters will mainly disembark, hopefully celebrating, from these east and north bound trains at local Welsh stations, Newport, Cwmbran, Abergavenny et al.
Therefore, the few late night travellers boarding at these local stations will have no problem being accommodated if in noisy Welsh arias resounding carriages. Indeed, after Abergavenny, almost empty carriages.
One can only hope that Jonathan is capable of applying more logic to his campaign as a Plaid Cymru candidate in the forthcoming Welsh Assembly elections.
