I READ with great interest Mr Derek Vaughan MEP’s letter cheer leading support of the EU. This raises several issues. As a resident of “The land the EU Forgot”,  AKA North Torfaen perhaps in a Pythonesque way could he tell us hill dwellers “What has the EU ever done for us”. Take for example Blaenavon, a thriving community, which has over the past years had taken from it: A swimming pool. Its main Post Office. Its only library. All its banks. Its roads are in a shocking state. Public transport links are not good. Those EU projects he mentions are of little or no use to North Torfaen. If the EU were providing recreational facilities, a Royal Mail type postal system. Libraries, a people’s bank. Take responsibilities for road and public transport, and much more. Then the EU would be worth being part of. Especially for the people of Blaenavon. He also stated 191,322 jobs linked to our trade to the continent. So; are they all going to disappear if we leave the EU as project fear demands us to believe. Of course not, trade does not work that way. What would disappear would be Mr Vaughans “gravy train” job as an MEP.  Now that would be something to cheer.
