LIKE many others I received a letter from David Cameron recently describing the NHS in Wales as failing and giving this as a reason to vote Conservative on May 5.
My experience of the NHS here is brilliant. I am in my 70s. I am cared for by an outstandingly excellent general practice in Chepstow. I had a successful bowel operation in the Royal Gwent Hospital in 2000, and a knee replacement at Neville Hall three years ago. This year I have had a cancer scare; I was given two CT scans, a major biopsy (happily normal), a specialist appointment and other ancillary services such as MRSA swabs all within a few weeks. The staff have in all cases been competent, kind and reassuring; I have been given wonderful care and am extremely grateful. I also attend the splendid NHS Exercise Referral Scheme, available only in Wales.
Junior doctors have not felt forced to strike here in Wales, and politicians do ill to use our NHS for cheap propaganda. I hope other readers experience of our NHS is good too; it is our experience we need to go by, not point scoring by politicians.
