I WAS shocked to learn today of the passing over of Councillor Ed Townsend.
Although the only remaining LibDem councillor at Newport Council, he was popular in the St Julian’s area and will be sadly missed.
When his party were in control with the Conservatives a few years ago he was deputy leader, when some futuristic steps were taken for the city’s prosperity, including the Friars Walk venture.
He was always around and about the St Julian’s area dealing with complaints and council matters.
The city has now lost a good councillor and a good man.
