I HAVE just watched Mr Calzaghe for the second time. I am 67 years old and have witnessed many great Welsh boxing events, shaken hands and conversed with gentleman Joe Erskine and as a beat bobby in Newbridge checked the door on the tin shed that passed for a gym where the finest super middle/light heavyweight boxer that ever lived trained.
When I look at the present day icons who have been honoured with Knighthoods I can think of no one who deserves that accolade more than Joe Calzaghe and I hope that he will top the list of the Queens honours this year.
He is a true sporting Icon.
