I WOULD like to say a huge thank you to the many, many people in Newport and beyond, who have sent wonderful messages of sympathy and support to me and my children, following the death of my husband, Councillor Ed Townsend. More than a month has passed since his death but the cards and letters continue to arrive in the post. All have a story to tell, whether it’s help he gave to people in St Julians ward, or just the funny anecdotes and memories from the world of journalism and politics. I must especially thank the lovely people of St Julians who wrote such kind messages of sympathy and for the donations to Velindre Hospital. St Julians ward was very special to Ed and he felt it was important to keep in touch with all people in the ward, not just those who voted for him. He fought some battles on behalf of St Julians in the years since 2004 and judging by the volume of mail we’ve had, he did a lot to help people behind the scenes, which we never knew about. So thank you all.
