LABOUR Islwyn’s MP Chris Evans has given support to Sirhowy Valley residents over the concerns a proposed waste plant could lead to air pollution. He has been joined by former Labour councillor Rhiannon Passmore, the new AM, Labour councillors Jan Jones and Phillippa Marsden. Although the planning application was passed by Caerphilly County Borough council and the ruling Labour party last year. I ask where were these councillors during that application and why couldn’t they persuade other Labour councillors to support them in turning the application down, if indeed they bothered to campaign against it within their Labour group? Keeping quiet while Ms Passmore runs her Welsh Assembly campaign. I know there would have been bigger protests if the proposed site was for Bedwas, Ystrad Mynach or Blackwood areas by local councillors.
