CAROL Jacobs of Friends Of The Earth states that we should vote to remain in the European Union because of the positive pro-environmental legislation. Does Carol Jacob mean, for example, the fact that the European Commission has recently ignored strong opposition from the European parliament concerning the potentially cancer-causing herbicide glyphosate by extending its license for another 18 months? So for the next year-and-a-half glyphosate will continue to be sprayed in public parks, on children’s playgrounds and on our housing estates! Opposition from MEPs is meaningless when it comes up against the core neo-liberal, pro-corporate business principles of the EU. This is hardly democracy is it?
