FURTHER to the article in your newspaper recently, re-more problems with recycling in Blaenau Gwent.
The previous system whereby residents put their recycling into two bags of different colours for different items to be recycled, and a black bag to be used for non recyclables, was a system that was being used by most people in Blaenau Gwent, and it was a growing trend in the borough, with the recycling rates getting better every quarter.
Currently the new system is far too complicated for people. It is unwieldy for most of the elderly in the borough, the topography is not flat, it has hills with steep streets and steps to most houses, after all it is mostly valley communities.
As stated in your article, residents are queuing to rid themselves of their black bags of rubbish, and fly tipping is rife, adding to the cost of clearing this mess throughout the borough.
This system is about making money from the recycling that the residents have sorted for the council. Let’s go back to the original system that people got used to and was doing the job. It didn’t cost the alleged £5.2million this new trollybox system has.
