“DO AWAY with these Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs)”, says Mr Len Price (Letters, August 24).
I absolutely agree with him.
These posts were imposed by the ConDem coalition government – and when Labour is re-elected to government, they will abolish them.
In the meantime, the role still exists and it’s important that the job is done well, to protect Gwent communities’ safety.
Mr Price is mistaken to say that Jeff Cuthbert was “appointed” as Gwent PCC – he was elected by Gwent voters.
As a former AM and Welsh Government minister, Jeff brings a wealth of public service experience to his new post.
Far from Jeff letting his Labour values “get in the way”, Mr Price can be assured that we in Islwyn, and across Gwent, have a strong PCC, committed to ensuring Gwent Police can get on with their excellent work.
