SO NEWPORT City Labour Council has made a “first round”application to the Heritage Lottery Fund for improving the City’s Market Arcade, which the Council has allowed to deteriorate into a disgusting and shameful state.
How many years before this “improvement” happens?
I walked through this historical arcade on Wednesday 21.9.16, having to dodge the flying vermin nested above and tried not to step on the filthy pigeon mess scattered on the ground.
As I then stepped into Market Street, I noticed a Council road-cleaning vehicle parked up-having overlooked the messy arcade?
Why has the Head of the Streetscene Cleansing Department not daily organised and cleaned this “Pride of Newport”landmark.maintaining a clean and healthy environment in the arcade until, hopefully the Lottery jackpot arrives.
I wonder if Newport City Labour Council has the sense to know the health risks of pigeon droppings e.g.breathing danger to the public?
Maybe the Council could hand-over the street cleaning responsibilities to another low-cost Trust!
