MR NUTT’S suggestion that we, the voting public, should subject parliamentary decisions to referenda is patently unworkable.
We elect politicians to make decisions on our behalf.
It would seem that his contention is that all politicians are not to be trusted.
If that be true we would have to totally dismantle our electoral system to achieve his aims.
We must put in place the means to prevent our elected MPs from involving themselves in interests outside of their remit such as directorships and lobby groups where a financial benefit is paid for their services.
This step would at least narrow the divide of mistrust that exists between constituents and our elected representatives.
