WE ARE reminded by Paul Flynn Labour MP Newport West (Argus September 28), that he was a Newport Labour councillor back in the 1970s.

So that is where he learnt his arrogant and insulting attitude as a sidekick to his leader Harry Jones, who almost brought Newport to its knees and who would not listen to business people, the public or his own party.

Somebody should explain the meaning of freedom of speech and democracy to Paul Flynn, our Newport public servant, who referred to intelligent Newport citizens as “misery-mongers”.

We do not run-down our town, we criticise Newport Labour Council for neglecting our city, once of high repute. The “I’m backing Newport” campaign by the Argus and Newport businesses etc, deserves applause and support especially with Newport Labour Council disowning so much of its responsibilities and handing over to a number of Trusts.

Conincidentally, a Cardiff newspaper has recently appealed to its readers to “spread the word” that Cardiff is reborn, with excellent shopping, countless restaurants and a buzzing music scene. But why is the Newport Transporter Bridge included in the adverts scenery? Is this a step in the Cardiff City Region Plan?
