THE decision by Newport City councillors to award pay rises of £10,000 to three heads of services in the authority is wrong and unfair. These officers are already earning salaries that ordinary working people can only dream about.

Councillor Chris Evans is absolutely right concerning the issues he raises in your article (Argus, September 29). It is totally unacceptable that a disabled child cannot get a place on a summer playscheme.

In her contribution, Councillor Debbie Wilcox, the leader of the city council, talks about fairness and equality. Where is the fairness and social justice here?

Newport needs more councillors like Chris Evans who raises and supports issues that are relevant to ordinary people. It is obvious Newport City Council has money to spare. This money needs to be spent on local front-line services.

This absurd decision to award these pay rises needs to be revoked immediately.
