DUE to illness, our regular school crossing patrol person no longer is working on North Road in Croesyceiliog. Torfaen Council has not, due to ongoing cuts to our public services, provided a replacement and so children and their parents/grandparents or guardians have to run the risk of being knocked down on a busy and dangerous road as they take their kids to North Road school.

So I ask Cllr Cunningham, Cllr Bob Wellington, Cllr Richard Clark (who incidentally voted for the implication of over £40 million of cuts to public services since 2008) please could the good people who have to risk their lives every school day have an urgent replacement?

The speed limit on North Road isn’t 20mph as outside Llanyravon Primary school but 30mph-plus so it’s really important that a replacement is found as soon as possible!

Torfaen Council have recently been praised by the Auditor General for Wales for showing great “inclusive leadership” in the adversity of the Tory-led austerity programme and their “strategic vision”, but they can’t even organise when our lollipop lady goes on long term sick. They can organise for the Mayor to be driven around to functions every week!

Perhaps the well “embedded learning culture” could be actually embraced by the council and they could realise that they will be blamed if anyone is mowed down on North Road!

Or perhaps a parent will take direct action and morph into a crossing patrol person?
