ST JULIANS bus users please be aware that from October 30 Newport Transport 26a/26c timetable changes will come into effect. Monday to Saturday buses will leave Friars Walk five minutes earlier than they do now. The last bus will be the 26C leaving at 19.25. The Sunday service will be reduced to every two hours between 09.20 and 19 20. Scott Pearson at Newport Transport has told me that this is due to lack of demand. He said that outside of these hours there is often only one passenger and it is not viable to keep running a service with such low demand which I think is fair. Customers continue to show their loyalty throughout the day. Mr Pearson said that they will review the situation if demand increases.
If you are concerned about this, contact your ward councillors. Beechwood Councillors Deb Davies and Mark Spencer are both Newport Transport Board members. I met with them recently. They are more than willing to raise your concerns with the board. I have suggested that after 19.25 they run the Caerleon bus over St Julians and back on to Caerleon Road. The last bus departs from FW at 22.30.
