NEWPORT Transport answer this question please.
The standard question remains with your standard reply of not sustainable, “Isn’t that why the Council / Welsh Assembly pay you subsidies?”
If you’re a public service, why don’t you use profits from other routes to sustain unprofitable routes?”
Cutting late services to the Gaer, St. Julians, Malpas, etc, will put young people, the elderly, the disabled and veterans at risk particularly in the winter as they will have to walk home in the dark, up hill and for some for up to three miles.
Those visiting relatives in hospital during the evening will also be affected as some services will cease before the end of visiting time.
Newport Transport clearly doesn’t care about the city and it’s regeneration, these plans will have the effect of limiting passengers thus affecting Friars Walk food outlets, Cineworld and the Bowling rink/Laserquest.
Well done Newport Transport, killing the city one step at a time.
Mr. Pearson of Newport Transport states that they can review a service if demand increases.
How can they review passenger numbers on a service they have cut?
Mr Pearson is clearly just trying to placate complainants.
If NT cut the Malpas, St. Julians, Gaer buses, I suggest NAT start a route that covers, Rogerstone (New estates at Alcan), Western Avenue, Gaer, City Centre, St. Julians, Malpas. Etc.
